Professor Andreas Papapetropoulos

Speaker: Professor Andreas Papapetropoulos

Talk title: Novel drugs approved by the EMA, the FDA and the MHRA in 2024

Biography: Andreas Papapetropoulos holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in Pharmacology. He is currently Professor of Pharmacology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Affiliated Investigator at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens, Greece. He is a fellow of the BPS and the AHA and a member of the Editorial Board of the BJP, JPET and ATVB. He has served as a National Delegate at the European Medicines Agency. He has been elected as Secretary General of EPHAR for 2016-2020. Andreas Papapetropoulos has studied the regulation, the physiological functions and the contribution of the nitric oxide/cGMP pathway to disease initiation and progression. More recently, he shifted the focus of his research to the physiology and pharmacology of hydrogen sulfide in the cardiovascular system. He has published 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals that have received >14,500 citations.

Talk title: Management of serotonin syndrome (toxicity)

Biography: A/Prof Angela Chiew is a Clinical Toxicologist and Emergency Medicine Physician at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick and as a Clinical Toxicologist for the NSW Poison’s Information Centre. She performs research into paracetamol poisoning and her major contribution has been the establishment of the Australian Toxicology Monitoring (ATOM) Study. She is on the editorial boards of British Journal of Clinal Pharmacology and Clinical Toxicology. She is the chair of the International Clinical Toxicology Recommendations Collaborative and the lead for the paracetamol poisoning group.

Talk title: PDE4B Inhibition by Nerandomilast: Effects on Lung Fibrosis and Transcriptome in Fibrotic Rats and on Biomarkers in Human Lung Epithelial Cells

Biography: Dr. Dennis Reininger is a molecular biologist specialized in translational research for diseases with high medical need. He recently completed his PhD at Boehringer Ingelheim and the university of Konstanz in Germany, where he investigated the cellular and molecular mode of action of nerandomilast for the pharmacological management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. His research focuses on bridging fundamental science with clinical applications to advance therapeutic strategies.
