Why are we still using animals in pharmacology education?

The use of animals and animal tissues in undergraduate and PGT pharmacology education is increasingly becoming challenging and controversial. The ultimate goal of the EU Animal Welfare Directive EU/2010/63 and Government policy is to replace the involvement of animals in research and education with non-animal alternatives. For some learners, replacing vertebrates with invertebrates is an acceptable half-way house, for other only full replacement will do.
In this highly interactive webinar we will briefly outline the drivers for change, colleagues will showcase invertebrate and non-animal educational approaches, with the webinar concluding with a panel discussion/Q&A session on the educational benefits/limitations of different approaches, and whether it is feasible to fully transition over time to new approach methodologies (NAMs) and non-animal technologies (NATs) in pharmacology education.
