20th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2026)



ASCEPT will host IUPHAR's 20th World Congress at the Melbourne Convention Centre in Melbourne, Australia.


The International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) and the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (ASCEPT) invite you to the 20th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (WCP2026).

The world’s pharmacology and therapeutics community will be welcomed to the Melbourne Convention Centre in Melbourne/Narrm, Australia from 12 - 17 July 2026. Students, early career pharmacologists, global leaders in clinical pharmacology, and innovators at the cutting edge of drug discovery and development, innovation and engagement with the pharmaceutical industry and academic sectors will gather to inspire, innovate and create real change in world-leading research and development.

Standard registration: 2 April - 30 June 2026
Late registration: from 1 July 2026

    Join us for a focused session showcasing the latest developments and opportunities across BPS journals.
  • Sponsored Keynote Lecture: Professor Simon Maxwell (BPS President-elect)

    'The making of a safe and effective prescriber: Rethinking prescribing education for a changing world'
    Wednesday 15 July, 4:45 pm – 5:30 pm
    Professor Simon Maxwell (President-elect of the BPS and Medical Director of BPS Assessment) will share how pharmacology education can evolve to better prepare both medical and non-medical prescribers for real-world practice.
  • BPS Assessment Session

    Thursday 16 July, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
    This extended session will highlight BPS Assessment and its role in supporting safe and effective prescribing, featuring expert speakers and real-world insights.

Celebrating our community

BPS members will be presenting their research across the congress, demonstrating the strength and diversity of our community worldwide. Sessions include:

  • IUPHAR Lifetime Achievement Award Lecture: Professor Michael Spedding

    ‘Fifty years of pharmacology, and sports science: leading to hope for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)?’
    Tuesday 14 July, 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm
    BPS Honorary Fellow and Elected Trustee of Industry, Professor Michael Spedding, is to be awarded IUPHAR's Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to pharmacology. In this lecture, Professor Spedding will share insights from his fifty years in pharmacology and sports science.

BPS bursaries

The BPS has awarded a total of £50,000 to 50 of its members to help cover their travel and accommodation costs for attending WCP2026. This supports our mission to make scientific conferences more accessible and allow more people to have access to world-leading pharmacology research.
