Educators Networking Webinar Series - Capstone Projects

Pharmacology undergraduates and Taught Post Graduates have traditionally undertaken a research project towards the end of their programme. For undergraduates, their final year or honours project. Historically, these have been laboratory, fieldwork or literature project, the purpose for learners to gain research experience. However, the majority of pharmacology graduates are not going into careers in research, and therefore there is a need to better prepare them, through their projects, for the diversity of careers they go onto.

The solution: The Capstone Project - a high-impact educational practice that originated in the US, with its focus on providing work experiences and developing competencies - knowledge, skills and behaviours.

In this session, Dr Dave Lewis will explain
  • what a capstone is
  • why institutions globally are introducing them into their programmes - across all disciplines
  • the challenges and solutions to implementation
  • the opportunity to introduce authentic assessments and
  • the huge benefits to learner outcomes and futures.
Dave will also share examples of opportunities suitable for Pharmacology programmes, and the broader Biosciences.
