Creating Engaging Content: How to Bring Science to Life for a Public Audience




Join us for a one-hour online webinar taking a comprehensive look at how to translate your science into exciting content that will engage the audience you want to reach. 

In the first segment, our Head of Marketing & Communications and our Community Engagement Officer will take you through the process of working with an animation company to develop and deliver a high-quality public engagement video. Our Communications Manager will draw on her years of experience in copywriting, editing, journalism and campaigns to give you the inside knowledge on writing attention-grabbing copy.

Yasmin Dickinson will be sharing her journey in disseminating her science through social media. She will talk about how she built her following across platforms, and how she harnesses trends to make sure her content stays relevant and exciting. We finish the session with insights from Robin Craig, who will speak about the importance of developing content into cohesive campaigns, with a strong narrative and clear goals.

Yasmin Dickinson



Speaker: Yasmin Dickinson, William Harvey Research Institute, London

Talk title: TBC

Biography: Yasmin is a Cardiovascular Medicine PhD student at the William Harvey Research Institute in London. Yasmin is working closely with AstraZeneca, focusing on the role of CNP (C-type natriuretic peptide) in signalling mechanisms involved with cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. She has a bachelor’s in Biomedical Science and a master’s in Molecular Biology. Before starting her PhD she worked as a research assistant at the University of Oxford, in the cardiovascular arena, exploring hypertension in pregnancy and dealing directly with patient samples from women with preeclampsia. Yasmin started creating science communication content two years ago on Instagram as @the.cardiac.scientist to inform, educate and raise awareness on science-related topics. She also shares her PhD journey with the aim of encouraging the next generation to pursue STEM careers or studies.


Robin Craig



Speaker: Robin Craig, Communications and Administration Officer, EDIS

Talk title: How do you create an inclusive public science event?

Biography: Robin Craig is a professional science communicator and specialist in equity, diversity and inclusion. He is the Communications and Administration Officer for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Science and Health (EDIS), a coalition of organisations across the UK science and health research sector working together on EDI. EDIS is currently incubated within the Wellcome Trust as part of the wider EDI team.

Prior to his current role, Robin worked as a journalist covering health inequalities in England and has published in outlets including VICE, Huck Magazine, and Dazed. He is passionate about health equity and creating a fairer, more inclusive research ecosystem.

Harriet Kotta

Biography: Harriet is Head of Marketing and Communications at the British Pharmacological Society. She has over 12 years of experience working in not-for-profit organisations on a broad range of communications. She
leads a fantastic team covering all aspects of digital marketing, integrated communications, media liaison, community engagement, and more. Her passion is for telling clear, accessible, and engaging stories that inspire empathy and kindness, and pique curiosity in the world around us.

Qasim Abbassi



Speaker: Qasim Abbassi, Community Engagement Officer, British Pharmacological Society

Biography: Qasim is the Community Engagement Officer at the British Pharmacological Society, with a background in pharmacology, therapeutics, and scientific teaching. Driven by a deep passion for making pharmacology accessible to all, Qasim is instrumental to the Society's efforts to engage its members and the wider public. His work involves curating impactful events and fostering community partnerships to amplify the interests and voices of the next generation of pharmacologists. Qasim's unwavering commitment to inclusivity and his ability will support the Society's initiatives to expand the reach and impact of our work.

Biography: Chloe is the Society's Communications Manager, and Managing Editor of the BPS Content Board. She enables the delivery of useful and informative content for pharmacology professionals and science enthusiasts. She is particularly interested in the patient experience and the importance of equitable access to healthcare for all.
