The BPS Inclusive Principles for implementation of the pharmacology core curriculum encourage a holistic approach to teaching relating to ethnicity. In this webinar we will explore some common misconceptions about ethnicity and examine some of the evidence base we should be aware of when teaching about individual variation. We will share some recent developments and new educational approaches.
Join Dr Alison Cave, Chief Safety Officer at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), as she talks about a career that has spanned academia, biomedical research, regulation, not for profit funding agencies, innovation and public health. Drawing on over three decades of experience, Alison will share how her pharmacology degree opened doors to opportunities she never imagined when she first began her studies. In this session, Alison will explore the wide variety of career paths available to pharmacologists and discuss how the skills developed through pharmacology—scientific curiosity, critical thinking, data interpretation and problem solving—can be applied across sectors. She will reflect on key career decisions, lessons learned from working at the forefront of medicines regulation and innovation, and the rewarding opportunities that come from helping to protect and improve public health.
Join us in Cambridge on 7-8th October 2026, where we will bring together established leaders and emerging investigators exploring the use of covalent modulators in drug discovery. The conference will feature the latest developments in covalent hit identification and optimisation, including the targeting of cysteine and other amino acid residues. There will be in depth analysis of the data needed to generate covalent dug candidates and discussion around best practices in the field.
Save the date and join us for this year's prestigious President’s Lecture, a highlight of the BPS calendar! This year, our President, Professor Cherry Wainwright, will be welcoming Professor Lorraine Works as guest speaker.
Early Career Professionals are invited to join this dedicated symposium ahead of the Presidents Lecture, designed to support and connect pharmacologists at the start of their careers. The event will bring together speakers from a range of backgrounds to share their career journeys, insights, and practical advice on navigating different pathways within and beyond academia, including industry.
This event aims to provide inspiration, honest perspectives, and valuable networking opportunities to help early career pharmacologists explore their options and shape their future careers.
